What Is Erb's Palsy?
One type of birth injury that can have devastating effects on the life of a child and their family is Erb's palsy. Also known as Erb-Duchenne Palsy, this condition causes paralysis in the arm. The nerves in the upper part of the arm are known as the brachial plexus.
When a portion of the brachial plexus is damaged due to a difficult labor or delivery, the result could be paralysis. The reason why difficult labor could cause this serious condition is that the child's neck and head and shoulders could be wrenched in directions they should not go.
In breech deliveries (feet first delivery) this could occur as well as if the doctor or nurse pulled on the infant's arm or shoulder during delivery.

Has Your Child Been the Victim of Erb’s Palsy?
In some cases, the infant can heal on their own, but other more serious cases require extensive therapy and even surgery. Due to this fact as well as the fact that it can cause undue emotional strain on a new family, it is important that victims receive compensation in order to pay for medical bills.
Medical professionals need to be held accountable for their negligent actions and a member of the team at Fitzsimmons Law Firm PLLC could help ensure that your rights are protected.
